Sorry, Apple Watch owners: Your high tech timepiece might soon be old news. Because word has it, a new version is on the way.
Citing unnamed sources, 9to5Mac on Tuesday reported that Apple, for a second consecutive year, is planning a March media event, where it will unveil its next-generation Apple Watch. According to the report, the second-gen wearable would then ship by April, a year after the original model hit the market.
And if the rumors are true, the new Apple Watch could be a huge improvement over the original, with features like a built-in camera for FaceTime chats and new wireless technology that allows certain key features like text messaging and email to work without a connected iPhone.
According to 9to5Mac, the event might also include the launch of the rumored new 4-inch iPhone . The handset will reportedly come with an A9 chip, slightly curved glass, and NFC support. KGI Securities’s Ming-Chi Kuo tipped the 4-inch iPhone last month, saying that while mobile phones are getting increasingly bigger, there is still consumer demand for smaller devices.
Apple did not immediately respond to PCMag’s request for comment.
In other iPhone news, Apple today released a new version of its mobile operating system, iOS 9.2, with a number of Apple Music and iBooks improvements, a new Top Stories section in News, a feature called Mail Drop for emailing large attachments, accessibility fixes, and more. The update also includes a laundry list of bug fixes affecting everything from Find my iPhone and iCloud Backups to the Camera, Calendar, and Contacts.
